How It All Began: Opening Our First Store at 335 Elizabeth St, North Hobart
In 2016, Dr. Tien had one dream — to bring the authentic flavours of Vietnamese street food to Tasmania. Starting from a small shopfront at 335 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart, he wanted every Hobartian to experience the warmth of Vietnamese culture through fresh, healthy, and affordable food. That first store became the heart of what Saigon Express is today.

In 2016, Dr. Tien set out with a simple vision: to bring the vibrant, comforting flavours of Vietnamese street food to Tasmania.
That journey began at a small storefront at 335 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart. With a focus on fresh ingredients, generous portions and affordable meals, Saigon Express quickly became a place where locals could enjoy the warmth, energy and rich flavours of Vietnamese cuisine.
From fragrant bowls of phở and crispy bánh mì to fresh rice paper rolls and family favourites, every dish was created to reflect the everyday food culture of Vietnam: honest, flavourful and made to be shared.
What started as one humble North Hobart store became the foundation of the Saigon
Express family. It was here that we built the values that continue to guide us today — welcoming service, consistent quality, respect for traditional flavours and genuine care for every customer who walks through our doors.
We are proud of where we began, grateful to the North Hobart community that supported us from the start, and excited to continue sharing Vietnamese food and hospitality across
Tasmania.
